Construction & Civil Engineering Buyer Exeter Up to £40,000 basic  Civil Engineering & Groundworks Contractor

 

I'm currently working in partnership with a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Exeter, who are looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to support their continued growth across the South West.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially-minded Buyer with a background in construction, civil engineering, or groundworks to join a dynamic, growing business with a strong pipeline of work.

 

The Role:

The successful candidate will take ownership of all buying functions across multiple live sites. You’ll be responsible for procuring materials, plant, and subcontract services – ensuring cost-efficiency, timely delivery, and supplier quality.

 

Key responsibilities include:

• Procuring materials, plant, and subcontract packages
• Managing supplier relationships and negotiating terms
• Monitoring delivery schedules and managing stock levels
• Supporting estimating and project teams with procurement advice
• Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with company policies

 

 The Ideal Candidate:

• Proven experience in a Buyer role within construction or civil engineering
• Groundworks knowledge preferred (but not essential)
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
• Familiarity with supply chains and material lead times
• Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Confident using procurement systems and Microsoft Office
